Drosophila Embryo Microinjection
From your genetic construct to your next fly model.
Embryo microinjection is a key step in generating transgenic and genome-edited Drosophila. By introducing DNA or genome-editing components into early embryos, researchers can create heritable genetic changes to investigate gene function, visualize proteins, and develop models of human disease.
At Genome ProLab, we help bring your projects to life with microinjection services tailored to your construct, fly strain, and research goals.
How does embryo microinjection work ?
Using a fine glass microcapillary, genetic material is delivered into an early-stage embryo, typically at the posterior pole, where the germline develops. When a modification reaches the germline, it can be transmitted to the next generation.
After injection, surviving embryos develop into adult flies. These founder flies are crossed, and their offspring are screened to identify individuals carrying the desired modification and establish stable lines.
Creating transgenic flies
Transgenesis introduces a DNA construct into the fly genome. It enables researchers to express a gene of interest, introduce fluorescent reporters, study regulatory sequences, or test gene function through rescue experiments.
Depending on the vector and recipient strain, integration can use a site-specific system such as ΦC31, which inserts a compatible construct into an established genomic landing site, or a transposon-based system such as P-element or piggyBac.
The choice of approach depends on the construct, available stocks, and intended application.
From injection to an established line
Successful injection is the beginning of the process. Genetic crosses, screening, and molecular verification are used to identify heritable modifications and establish the desired stocks.
Genome ProLab can help define an approach suited to your project, from embryo microinjection to screening and line establishment. The scope of the service and validation steps are specified in your project quotation.
